The Penrith u3a Folk Dance Group meets on the second and fourth Thursdays in each month at Tirril Reading Rooms, starting at 2pm and finishing about 4.15.

Folk dance is similar to ceilidh dancing, but more interesting and less energetic. Unlike Scottish dancing you do not need to learn the dances or to do special steps. All dances are walked through first. A caller will continue to give instructions during the dance.

We dance a range of folk dances, usually English, with some Scottish and American. There is usually live music.

You would not need to come with a partner as there will be others who come on their own and we often change partners during the dance. You do not need to be particularly fit or agile to take part and enjoy dancing.

If you would be interested in joining the folk dance group in Penrith u3a please contact one of our convenors above.
